Hello, FYI This is not an IIS Net Forum or IIS Server issue typically this would be handled in Windows Client Forum or Windows Install Forum. I will give 'Best Effort' answer for the questions. For this question 'Is it possible to upgrade to IIS 6 from the standard IIS 5.1' no you can not upgrade to IIS 6 for Windows XP Professional intel win32 X86.
The Windows 2003 Professional X64 / XP Professional X64 editions do have IIS 6.0. Before doing any changes you should get several tools: Get the Nirsoft Product Key Tool and find the Windows Product Key save the information & write it down. Next get the MGA Diagnostic Tool from Microsoft Genuine Support run the tool see if the Windows is Activated and matches the Product Key from a legal / activated Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Service Pack 3 will be required to install the missing components.
Failure to validate the Product Key or Windows Genuine checks can lead to a system or condition that would require reinstalling the Windows XP and possible loss of any data or files. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Do not do any of the install or upgrades below if the Product Key does not match or fails the MGA genuine tests. If you can not resolve the Product Key and Activation tests go back to the Refubisher and request a proper OEM Retail Key for your Windows XP Pro system.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To resolve the missing CD and install componenets you can download the full-stand-alone cd iso from Microsoft Download Center for Service Pack 3. You then can use the CD to XCOPY the Windows-XP-Service-Pack3.exe file to your hard disk. Alternate the Windows-SP-Service-Pack.exe can be downloaded and placed in folder and you use the extract commands and methods.
Once you have the Service-Pack3.exe in a folder you can run Service-Packe3.exe /? Which will display help. If you look at the help display there are command switches to extract the Service-Pack3.exe only and to another folder on the system the best choice would be to this new folder C: I386. After extract has completed you then can use the add & remove section of the Control Panel to change Windows Features.
