I've used my FT1000MP for the past 18 years and that radio has always worked great. I'm a 95% CW guy and am addicted to being able to listen to the DX station in left ear and the pile- up in right ear (headphones). Crack windows server 2012 build 9200 windows 10. I've loved that radio and had myself convinced it was all I would ever need-- but I was wrong. I must admit I was skeptical about all the rave reviews on the FTDX5000MP but in a moment of questionable sanity, I ordered one.
I've now had it about 10 days. I was initially a bit intimidated by all the knobs and switches, but in a few hours of reading the manual, I was making CW contacts with ease. I found setting up the 5000 for SPLIT operation quite different than my old 1000MP but not difficult to master and has quickly become 2nd nature. What's really impressive is what the 5000's receiver does.
I never found the NR function very impressive on the 1000MP-- it changed the sound of the noise but didn't do much to make it actually go away. But the DNR function on the 5000 is amazing-- the background pink noise can be made to just disappear.
